Sarah Stevenson announced that the Forum would not meet on Tuesday, Nov. 8,
Election Day.

Rodney Moore announced that the Legislative Black Caucus and the Mecklenburg
County Democratic delegation would hold a town hall meeting on Thursday,
Nov. 17 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at C.N. Jenkins Memorial Presbyterian Church,
1421 Statesville Ave.

Beverly Irby announced that tickets for the 30th anniversary celebration
gala for the C.W. Williams Community Health Center would be $100 for
individuals and $1,000 for a table of 10. The gala will be held Nov. 19 at
the Westin Hotel at 6:30 p.m. with an auction, music, dinner and an address
by actress and HIV/AIDS advocate Sheryl Lee Ralph. Info and tickets: Irby at

Johnnie Collins offered $1 raffle tickets on behalf of Hornets Nest
Elementary. Proceeds from the raffle will support literacy efforts at the
school. First prize is $1,000. Drawing is Dec. 13. Tickets are also
available at the school, 6700 Beatties Ford Rd.

Joyce Waddell announced that the Mecklenburg African-American Caucus will
host the N.C. Democratic Party African-American Caucus Convention on
Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Executive Park Hotel, 5624 West

Ken Koontz announced that N.C. Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton would be in Charlotte
Friday morning at 11 a.m. to tour the C.W. Williams Community Health Center.
All are invited to attend.

Rob Hillman thanked people for their support of last Saturday's Walk for
Education sponsored by the National Society of Black Engineers. About 75
people canvassed the neighborhood around the West Charlotte Recreation
Center, four colleges and the Army were represented at the college fair, a
robot showed up for demonstrations, and 20-30 young people attended.

Rob Hillman announced 100 Black Men of America Greater Charlotte chapter
will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a concert by Boyz II Men at Knight

Tahira Stalberte sent in an invitation to participate in the CMS
superintendent search
online survey. "The survey, which is available in English and
Spanish, ends Nov. 7. Survey questions will include information about the
importance of leadership traits, skills and abilities for the next
superintendent. It will also include a demographic section and a question
asking respondents if they work in CMS or have a child enrolled in the
district. Survey participants and responses will remain confidential."

Participants should scour their garages and attics, then bring on the 13th all manner of gag and "just-what-I-always-wanted" gifts to be shared during the Party games.

Robert Dawkins announced that the N.C. Senate had voted to repeal the Racial Justice Act. Since the repeal has already cleared the N.C. House, Gov. Bev Perdue has 30 days to consider a veto. "As many letters as we can get in to the governor to show that there is community support [for a veto] would be appreciated."
